It is quite simple, but very relaxed.

No pool, but its own private beach.

I hope you enjoyed Paris. I usually go there at least twice a year - by Eurostar.

That is interesting. Could you not have arranged a pulley and rope outside the tower?

This blog item has raised considerable comment from people who have known the tower.

I still walk there at least a couple of times a month - and on to the Mausoleum (The Samuelsons).

It is a nice distance from the car park and I sometimes take friends and relatives, who all enjoy it.

I painted the tower when it was refurbished. I remember the wooden stair case and carrying the paint to the top floor!!

I visited Ruxley Ridge recently and opposite in Ruxley Gardens, there is a house built on what looks very much like a magazine from the Napoleonic era. Do you know anything about this?

The tower is one home ,but the wing is divided up into 4 homes.

It was for sale for 2.5 million.

but has gone under offer for rental.

I have been to Curchods website and find it is for sale as a a 4-bedroom property - so it hasn't been divided up, as I thought.

I was a little confused by this:

"Ruxley Tower was completely renovated in 1996 and converted into five luxury homes. The development received a Conservation Award in 1996 and the tower itself remains the landmark that it always was.".

It is now obvious that the five luxury homes refer to those newly-built in the grounds.

I wonder how much the Tower will sell for?.

I didn't know that the Tower was up for sale. I thought it had been divided into apartments.

Perhaps it is one of these you have seen for sale - or one of the modern houses recently built in the grounds.

All MOST interesting, My sister Patricia Robb daughter of R.C.Robb was born at Ruxley Towers in 1939. I have visited this site because I know that Ruxley Towers is on the market again and I am trying to find out who lives there now.

I walked up to the tower yesterday, passing on the way the Christmas Tree which is decorated every year in aid of animal charities.

I have just googled to this site and read your interesting comments regarding Chatley Heath Tower. My Great Grandfather John Turner lived at the Tower from 1903 until after 1937 sometime. I have a number of old photographs and one in particular of him standing on the steps leading to the front door. You can make out the MOD Government Arrow engraved into the concrete and having visited in recent years, you can still see the arow today. My mother remembers staying overnight at the tower when she was a little girl and has very fond memories of walking and playing in the woods around the tower and the small vegtable garden that used to be sited just outside the main building.

I never went back but, unless you have already done so, you should visit it and perhaps knock on the door and ask the owners about its history.

The Chatley tower on Ockham Common was restored a few years ago and is in full working order. Unfortunately it is closed to visitors at the moment.

I just started to read Home, an autobiography of Julie Andrews. Seems she was born in 1935 at Walton-On-Thames. "Walton's small claim to fame was its bridge over the Thames. A very early version was painted by Canaletto; J.M.W.Turner painted a new bridge in 1805. The span was reconstructed again long ago, but in my youth the bridge was so old and pitted that our bones were jarred as we rattled over it, and I was able to peer through the cracks and see the river flowing beneath." I fished here last night for barbel and chub. I used pellet boilie and worm fishing a feeder with breadcrumb and pellet but blanked. Any advice? Great area. The water was murky and it was raining too. Thanks for your advice
